Timber framing accentuates both the beauty of solid wood and the meticulous craft of joinery where timbers are connected with simple wooden joints to create lasting structures. Natural timber carries the fractal beauty of the forest into built form, and as it ages, its shifting colours and textures continue to inspire. The exposed structure inherent to timber framing offers a sense of confidence—there is comfort in seeing and holding the very framework of a building, an intuitive understanding of why it stands, and trust that it will continue to endure.

At Zwart Joinery, I combine the inherent benefits of this craft with a commitment to listening and problem-solving. With over 12 years of experience in traditional timber joinery, heritage restoration, and new construction, I work collaboratively to find solutions that suit each project. Inspired by 19th-century barns and industrial buildings—structures built when timber was a necessity and still admired today for their beauty and strength—I strive to design and build with the same integrity, creating work that will delight future generations.
